Governor Granholm is making another sweep through the state. This time she is trying to mobilize college students into pressuring elected officals to raise taxes (mostly on the working poor). Common Sense in Government was there, along with some fantastic young activists, asking students not to drink Granholm's kool-aid and offering a glass of our own instead- based on facts.

A group of students (we think from Merrill) visited the Capitol today, along with teachers, administrators and parents, in an effort to strong arm legislators into raising taxes. We have a few questions. First, who is teaching the students if their teachers are in Lansing? Second, how is it acceptable to bring students to Lansing, during the school day, to lobby for higher taxes? Third, when are schools going to learn to live within their budget like the rest of us have to?

The New Tax Tour is in full swing, with Gov Granholm making a stop in Macomb County today. She just wants to hurt poor folks who get the Earned Income Credit and raise taxes on those pesky smokers who roll their own cigs to save money. But that really isn't a tax hike..... Yeah, we don't buy it either. That is why Common Sense in Government was there today, representing you and Making Lansing Listen.
