Nearly 1000 residents came downtown for the annual tree lighting ceremony and free skate night at the Rink on the River. This year the Billinghurst Middle School Choir sang before Mayor Bob Cashell pushed the button to light the 44-foot tree. Spectators were surprized when a flash mob broke out in the crowd with about 150 dancers of all ages doing a mix of dances to holiday music. Truckee Meadows Water Authority is replacing the flume in Mogul that feeds water from the Truckee River to the Chalk Bluff Storage and Treatment Plant. The engineering for the project is environmentally friendly, which made it eligible for a low interest loan in President Obama's Stimulus Package. TMWA hired contractor Reno Tahoe Construction to lay 8400 feet of pipe into a fifteen foot deep trench and 38-hundred feet of concrete boxes.
