Gruber Stille Nacht (Silent Night) Schumann-Heink Rec 1926.wmv

The great contralto Ernestine Schumann-Heink (1861 - 1936) sings Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht. It is said that her 1911 Victor recording popularized this carol in the United States. This is her 1926 electrical recording. It was on Christmas Eve of that year when Schumann Heink began singing this carol every Christmas Eve over the National Broadcasting Company network. This tradition continued nearly until her death. Recorded November 3, 1926 (Stewart Wille, organist)
