Turning Stone Part 1

This is the stone with waste blocks glued on and ready to begin the turning process. some are mounted on face plates and others will be mounted on a lathe chuck. Epoxy is used to hold the wood block to the stone. once finished it will be cut off and the waste block used again. see the web site artistinwood,net for the finished result.

Turning Alabaster Stone A brief movie on turning Alabaster on a wood lathe. This is stone I got in the Pan Handle of Texas. It makes a lot of dust so a good vacuum system is a must. Wear a Mask also. Alabaster is a Easy stone to turn, so is soapstone. On a scale of 1-10 soapstone is a 1, alabaster a 2 to 3, Diamonds are a 10. Using Carbide tips on the end of the handles.
