Maria Pacheco is the general manager and co-owner of Kiej de los Bosques, an organization dedicated to linking rural communities in Guatemala to markets, as a way to generate a prosperity that starts in the remote villages of our country. Kiej, in alliance with the Embassy of Norway, ICCO and Hivos, has worked with 50 rural groups in Guatemala, (1300 people, mostly women) in the creation of their businesses and market access. Maria was also co-designer of a National Program for Economic Development, which was an IDB/World Bank loan of $60 million for Guatemala. This program is designed to provide 300 rural groups with the technical assistance and public infrastructure required for national and international success. Georgetown University Law Center Interim Dean Judith Areen is pleased to announce the appointment of Georgetown Law Professor Richard Lazarus to the newly established Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. Professorship. He was formally installed in a ceremony at the Law Center on February 3. "Richard Lazarus is one of the nations foremost Supreme Court scholars. He is ideally suited to hold this professorship," said Areen. "We are deeply grateful to the generous alumnus who endowed the professorship in honor of his friend, Justice Brennan." Lazarus has served on the Georgetown law faculty since 1996, where he teaches courses on environmental law, the US Supreme Court and torts. Lazarus obtained a BS in chemistry and a BA in economics from the University of Illinois. William Westney. Pianist, author, educator and lecturer William Westney is the originator and coordinator of Meaning in the Arts an Interdisciplinary Conversation. Westney is a member of Texas Techs Institute for Studies in Pragmaticism.
