ROKPA INTERNATIONAL was established in 1980 by the Tibetan doctor and meditation master Dr. Akong Tulku Rinpoche, by Lea Wyler and by Dr. Veit Wyler. The headquarter is in Zurich/ Switzerland. ROKPA is an non-political humanitarian charity that is commited to improve, with lasting effect, the lives of people who live in the areas of extrem poverty mostly in Tibet and Nepal. The ROKPA Children Tour is a very special kind of cultural encounter: the Polish director Grzegorz Bral (multiple prize-winner at the Edinburgh Festival), and Lea Wyler have created a repertoire for rokpa's Anniversary celebrations, with dances and music from the Himalayan region. The dancers, who where themselves former street kids, also bring some exciting personal elements. This is a reflection of how modern influences have reached these remote regions, but without diminishing the original cultural traditions.

ROKPA wants to help this Monastery which was built 900 years ago. On September 5th 2009 the disaster of a landslide happened and damaged many buildings of the compound and the main Shrine Room. This is a serious incident. It is an absolute must that this Monastery be rebuilt for the continuation of the Dharma! The monks have to move away from there and find another place to build the new Monastery on. We appeal to all beings who have a great heart and can offer help at this time. This will also be so useful in protecting the environment! So ROKPA INTERNATIONAL requests all people concerned with the preservation of Dharma and the protection of the environment to offer every possible help now. Although it was established in 1967, Kagyu Samye Lings story begins in 1950s Tibet when two young High Lamas and their followers were compelled to escape from their occupied homeland. The arduous journey from Tibet, first on horseback then on foot, over the frozen Himalayas and into a scorching India took a high toll and proved fatal to many in the travelling party.
