A jolly tale and a jolly tune. The story is about the accidental introduction into the islands of molasses and the tune (as far as I can figure) is about a couple of people's houses. This one's a bit tricky, but here are some of the obvious ones: ken ("know"), een/twa ("one/two"), bairn ("child"), switch ("such"), kye ("cows"). Afore the Mast (Tales from Shetland) Track 8, Part I
"The Ben Doran". The tale here, about a ship that went down in the 1930s, is the easiest to understand so far, as well as by far the longest. It isn't actually in Shetlandic, but in English with a Shetland accent and a few Scottish/Shetlandic words and uses thrown in (such as "come" as a preterite [also not uncommon in rural American speech] and "she goit heim").
