1st December 2009 - In weak, winter sunshine, following the first frost of the year, I popped out for a couple of hours with the dog in Kingsthorpe Water Meadows by the River Nene (pronounced Nen in these here parts, so it's the Nen Valley Railway!) Apart from the ubiquitous Class 66 and 90 Intermodals and 350 passenger trains, a DBS Class 92 ran light, so I tagged on a brief shot of a couple of 57's running light south through Northampton taken in November.

I normally don't go out in very poor conditions but I heard on the grapevine that a Class 31 was mooching through Northampton so I thought I would give it a go, though it did mean lurking in the shrubbery and hiding behind walls and in trees to keep the wind noise down! There was the added bonus of the WCML being down between Milton Keynes and Rugby so it turned into a busy couple of hours. The stormy conditions led to interesting lighting so I hope you enjoy this compilation....

This advert was commisioned to announce the completion of the 10 year upgrade program to the West Coast Main Line. The narrator is Bernard Hill and the copy was written by Chas Bayfield. The ad agency was IRIS and the production company was RSA. A number of music houses in LA pitched for the music but in the end the client liked mine best.
