Our First Coast Plein Air Painters paintout for March was at the historic, beautiful Fort Caroline National Monument (geo:lat=30.386536586764183 geo:lon=-81.50062680244446). This is my 16x20 acrylic looking northwest. The video's first half is in real-time showing the underpainting.... the scond half is in time lapse (1.5 seconds every 30 seconds) ... trying to slow things down a bit as requested by many viewers. It was overcast at first, but soon became a beautiful day at this beautiful location. My thanks to the Park Rangers for allowing us the opportunity to paint there. ABOUT FT. CAROLINE: Frances first attempt to stake a permanent claim in North America was at La Caroline, a settlement near the mouth of the St. Johns River in Florida. An exploratory expedition, commanded by Jean Ribault, left France in February 1562.
