For Writer's Craft, we had an investigation to record ourselves trying out this "Melisma" thing. We had to experiment our voice at the: highest, lowest, softest, loudest, smoothest, roughest, funniest, saddest, stern, boring, interrupted, rhytmic, unrhythmic, highest sound again, suddenly softest, gradually modulating to the funniest.
