"Defenders of Marriage" (Roy Zimmerman) - MIDI version
I've been wanting to post a response video to Roy Zimmerman's "Defenders of Marriage" for some time now, but my webcam has an unfortunate tendency to crash my operating system (not good). So instead of hauling out the guitar and calling in an exorcist for the computer gremlins, I settled down to write a "piano" arrangement in MIDI format. It follows Roy's guitar arrangement pretty closely, but with a sort of rinky-tink / silent-movie feel to it that actually seems rather oddly fitting to the subject. Then I started playing with ways to creatively display the lyrics (which makes it feel even more like a silent movie, a similarity with possibly significant metaphorical undertones, considering the subject matter). All in all, I have spent WAY more time on this little project than I ever intended, and now I have to get back to being a Serious Adult (or pretending as best I can) - but it was fun.
