Falconers fly at Ox Mountain Landfill

Falconer Steve Vasconcellos and his crew of raptors, dogs and fellow falconers spend each day chasing away sea gulls that flock to the dump in Half Moon Bay for an easy meal. Vasconcellos, of Wingmaster Falconry, was called in at the behest of San Mateo County environmental health officials after germ-ridden gulls were found spreading trash from the dump into nearby streams that feed the Pacific Ocean. The falconers operate round the clock, seven days a week.
