The Price Control Bill 2009 continues to draw sharp reactions from different quarters with Central Bank of Kenya Governor Prof Njuguna Ndungu cautioning that the bill only offered short term solutions to the current high food prices. The Kenya Federation of Employers is meanwhile warning that enacting the law does not necessarily imply that food prices will automatically go down.

The Parliaments bid to re-introduce price controls on essential goods continues to evoke strong sentiments against that move. And the latest opponent to that policy is the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Professor Njuguna Ndungu. While the Governor concurs that there is need for stability in the prices of essential goods, he contends that price controls will only provide a short-lived solution to a much bigger problem.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya has expressed his opposition to the proposed re-introduction of price controls. Police are on the spot again over the killing last week of former Mungiki spokesman Njuguna Gitau. Former Kabete MP Paul Muite presented a signed affidavit alleging police involvement in the shooting. Muite is calling on the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights to forward the file to the International Criminal Court.
