Grupos Motivos, a collective of Puerto Rican women, created Las Parcelas and numerous other urban gardens to combat the crime and deterioration of their Philadelphia neighborhood. Now the garden provides a cultural center of activity, and the women who maintain it, like Iris Brown and Tomasita Romero, are hoping to pass their work onto the younger generation.
