1910, found him working in Chicago, as musical director for various theatres. In 1912, He led the Wilbur C. Sweatman Band at the Pekin Theatre. Chicago, IL. In 1913, Sweatman moved to New York where he became close friends with Scott Joplin. Later, Joplin, in his will, named Sweatman as executor of his estate.
