Fail-Safe (1964) Part 5

ARDC) at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.A number of contractors submitted bids including Boeing, Convair, Curtiss, Douglas, Martin and North American Aviation. Building on Convair's experience of earlier delta-wing fighters, beginning with the XF-92A, a series of GEBO II designs were developed, initially studying swept and semi-delta configurations, but settling on the delta wing planform. The final Convair proposal, coded FZP-110, was a radical two-place, delta wing bomber design powered ...

Convair B-36 Peacemaker at Pima Air & Space Museum

This is a newly restored Convair B-36J Peacemaker on display at the Pima Air & Space Museum outside of Tucson, Arizona. It is my understanding that this particular aircraft was the last B-36 manufactured and the last B-36 to be retired from the US Air Force inventory. Congratulations to the museum's restoration crew. A job well done.

"Braniff CV-340 Crash Midway"-Newsreel-7/17/55

Somewhat eerily, the vertical stabiliser remains intact just like the Electra that crashed in Buffalo, TX in 1959, and in both scenes, the words, "Fly Braniff" can be clearly seen. The Convair CV-340 was on operating on the flight Dallas-Oklahoma City-Wichita-Kansas City-Chicago. Departure time a Kansas City was 04:35 as the aircraft started VFR for Chicago. IFR was requested at 05:19. At 05:56 the crew received a weather forecast: thin (1000 feet) obscuration; visibility 1/2 mile. The crew ...

Swissair Convair CV-990-"Landing Kai-Tak"-1964

Some real footage, some staged, and even though the actual aircraft footage is minimal, the video is worth it alone for all that great engine scenery from within the cabin! Nice, up close shot of the nose gear too. Also, watch for a CP-Air DC-8, BOAC 707, AND VC-10 wearing the short lived "Interim" Speedbird livery! The Presidents Part 20 George Walker Bush

attended the Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA. He is the only US President to have "earned" an MBA. In May 1968, Bush was commissioned into the Texas Air National Guard. After training, he was assigned to duty in Houston, flying Convair F-102s out of Ellington Air Force Base. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force Reserve on November 21, 1974, at the end of his six-year service obligation. Eight months into Bush's first term as president, the September 11, 2001, ...
