I did this just before I did Oh Dioblo and I totally forgot about it until I found it today. The first part background is all done with After Effects the rest of the background is a combination of After Effects and XSI. The Solder Boy and the Ocean are XSI and the Nautilus Sun is After Effects. The texture on the sphere came from the actions panel in PhotoShop and then I animated the solder like flow in AE, then I used that animation to both deform and color the sphere. ...
