Tall ships Pictou, 29th July 2009,

In 1773 the first wave of a tide of Scottish settlers rowed ashore in Pictou Harbour from the ship Hector. The 189 passengers had left behind a way of life that had been steadily destroyed by wars, famine and the loss of farm lands. They brought with them their traditions, heritage and culture. The town of Pictou is aptly called The Birthplace of New Scotland.
