Op 6 december wordt om 01u47 Belgische tijd vanop Cape Canaveral een Delta 4 raket gelanceerd met in zijn vrachtruim de Amerikaanse militaire WGS 3 communicatiesatelliet. De 5,8 ton zware WGS 3 kunstmaan wordt 41 minuten na de lancering met succes uitgezet in een tijdelijke baan om de Aarde. WGS satellieten moeten op termijn het verouderde DSCS communicatienetwerk vervangen.
