And so we continue our odyssey into, perhaps, the rarest of Artie Shaw's albums - his first, recorded at the zenith of his great 1938-1939 band - with side 9: "The Man I Love". With all due respect to the great Coleman Hawkins (who's rendition of this wonderful song I'll be posting as well), this has to be my favorite version of "The Man I Love" - yeah, I'm admittedly biased because it's Artie, but MAN, what a cut. Rates right up there with Artie's "Stardust" in the comfy old shoe department ...
