SB2535: Illinois Senate votes on motorcycle helmet law for kids

On March 18, 2010, the Illinois Senate voted on SB 2535, a bill to require kids riding on the back of motorcycles to wear helmets. At the prodding of abate's lobbiest and members who paced the halls and sat in the gallery for days before the vote, the Senate eventually voted against the bill. This leaves Illinois still isolated as one of only three states that does not have any such law. The sponsors of the bill included Senator Donne E. Trotter (who introduced the bill), Sen. Jacqueline Y. Collins, and Kwame Raoul. Sen. Gary Forby, who ABATE both endorses and supports, led the opposition, saying he didn't want the Illinois Senate "telling me how to raise my kids."
