Scholarships for UK/EU students
The University has a generous scholarship scheme for UK/EU students. Our gold level scholarships are worth £12,000 over three years and our silver scholarships are worth £6,000 over three years.

All scholarships will be paid as tuition fee costs, except in cases where the award exceeds the cost of the fees, where the excess will be paid as a cheque. All cheques will be made available in January 2010.

The scholarship is guaranteed for the first year, but subject to satisfactory academic progress for subsequent years.

The scholarships are available for any undergraduate course in the University. These are open to all applicants. For half of the available scholarships, priority will be given to you if you are from our associate and partner colleges and schools.

Typically, a gold level scholarship is set at three As at A level, or equivalent qualification, and silver level is set at three Bs at A level, or equivalent qualification. Please note this academic criterion is not an absolute criterion, and other factors such as financial need, difficulties overcome, being the first in your family to attend university and your supporting statement will be taken into consideration. The average entry qualifications for particular courses will also be a consideration.

UK – Oxford University Computing Laboratory
The Computing Laboratory invites applications for full and partial scholarships for D.Phil. (Doctor of Philosophy) study to commence in October 2009.

The Computing Laboratory is among the world’s leading Computer Science departments. It is a centre for research in computer science, numerical analysis, computational biology, quantum computation, computational linguistics, and information systems, supported by £27M of research grants from research councils, EU and industry. Our students obtain an outstanding education in computer science through a variety of undergraduate and graduate programmes, including a part-time, professional programme in software engineering.

The Laboratory’s research strength derives from its firm grounding in core Computer Science disciplines, a high degree of mathematical sophistication among its researchers, and its committed engagement with applications and interdisciplinary work. Over the past several years we have significantly broadened the spectrum of computing research in the Laboratory. The intake of graduate students has substantially increased, and we now have over 100 graduate research students.

Regulation of the Drosophila Cellular Immune Response by the Nucleokinesis Complex

Evidence is mounting that during attachment or encapsulation events leukocytes, platelets, and insect haemocytes use the same adhesion complexes as epithelial and neuronal cells. In mammalian neuronal cells a nucleokinesis complex regulates nuclear migration. There is mounting evidence that this same apparatus is important in regulating Drosophila circulating immunosurveillance cell (haemocyte) activity.

The key question of this study is to ask how the nucleokinesis complex regulates embryonic haemocyte migration.

Eligibility:
Fees will be paid at UK/EU rates only. Candidates must be UK citizens or EU citizens who have resided in the UK for three years, and should hold, or expect to obtain, a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree or a Masters degree or an equivalent qualification

Commences October 2009
