Freelance Sub-editors Singapore-based freelance sub-editors wanted! Ink Publishing is seeking talented sub-editors with a keen eye for detail, an inexhaustible passion for words and an understanding of the mechanics of magazine journalism. Ideally, they will have travelled extensively in the region and have at least three years’ editorial experience working on both international and Singapore-based titles. Primary focus: Copy-editing and fact-checking the content of the magazine in Word before it goes to design; ensuring text fits on the page, and styling details are in line with the magazine’s style guide; writing headlines/captions within InDesign. Sharp attention to both the smaller detail and the bigger picture is a must. Responsibilities: To ensure that all copy is accurate and flows smoothly – both in terms of how the text reads overall and how it looks on the page. To ensure that all pictures are correctly captioned and credited according to magazine style. To ensure that all page furniture is consistent with both the flatplan and in-house style. To assist the editor and designer in ensuring the workflow remains constant and meets deadlines.

Deputy editorial director / editor Ink Publishing is seeking a talented deputy editorial director with a proven employment record in publishing, an endless supply of innovative editorial ideas, and an understanding of the mechanics of magazine journalism. Ideally, they will have travelled extensively in the Asia-Pacific region, India in particular, and have at least five years’ in-house editorial experience working on both international and Asia-based titles. Primary focus: To be an all-round support to the editorial director in the conceptualisation and launch of new titles and overseeing the editorial function across all existing titles, ensuring they maintain the highest standards and achieve their objectives. Responsibilities: Contribute editorial and design concepts for new pitches done out of the Singapore office. Launching new titles and translating pitches into paper and print reality, helping conceptualise departments and features, cover styles, design templates, editorial voice and style sheets. Quality control of existing titles; assist in revamp and overhaul of existing titles when required. Recruiting, interviewing and managing members of the editorial team. Setting the standards of the editorial team and ensuring that all members meet them through a consistent induction and review process. To edit own monthly title supported by a deputy editor. You must be able to generate story ideas, commission copy, edit text, work with design team on presentation of the magazine, and taking ultimate responsibility for all content.
