Cristiano Ronaldo ignores Portuguese award Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has failed to receive the Portuguese ‘Personality of the year 2008′ award, becoming the first recipient in 20 years to ignore the honor all-together.

“We are not going to hand over the award as [Ronaldo] hasn’t replied in any way to the invitation to receive it,” said organisation president Belen Rodrigo.

“It is a shame not having received even a few words of gratitude from his part. Previous winners always received it with great pride. Ronaldo doesn’t value the award with which he represents his country,” she added.

In the past, the award has been received by well known personalities as Luis Figo and European Commission President Jose Barroso.

Ronaldo baffled by dive booking Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo insists referee Chris Foy was wrong to book him for diving during Sunday’s League Cup final victory against Tottenham.

Ronaldo is no stranger to controversy over his theatrical tumbles but the Portugal star appeared to be harshly treated by Foy at Wembley.

Television replays showed Tottenham defender Ledley King clearly made contact with Ronaldo before the United player fell to the turf in the penalty area.

Foy was quick to flash a yellow card at Ronaldo after the incident, much the bemusement of the World and European Footballer of the Year.

“If you see the replay you will see that their player kicked me in the foot,” Ronaldo said.

“The referee did not make the right decision then and he didn’t give me a lot, all match, I don’t know why. But in every game, the referee’s decision has to be respected.”

Ronaldo insisted: “It is quite difficult to achieve but we are going from game to game. We always have the opportunity to win everything. We’ve won this cup and now we don’t have much time to celebrate.”
