PhD Studentship in Computational Modelling in Chemistry, Biology and Industry, University of Leeds, UK
Supervisor Name: Dr Annette Taylor, School of Chemistry in collaboration with Dr Mark Wilson in Mechanical Engineering
Value: The stipend will be at the standard EPSRC rate (currently 12,940 pa), and the studentship is open to any UK or EU nationals possessing/expecting a good degree in a physical science, engineering, computing or mathematics.
Project Description:
An exciting PhD opportunity is available in an emerging research field at the interface of physical sciences, engineering and biology. The project seeks to use detailed computational modelling to understand the influences of different fluid flows on the dynamics of chemical reactions. This is key to developing our understanding of biological pattern formation, the propagation of chemical signals, the dynamics of blood flow, the control of hazardous chemical reactions, and other important applications in chemistry, biology, medicine and industry.
PhD Scholarships in Biology, Physics, or Chemistry, the International Helmholtz Research School BioSoft, Germany
The International Helmholtz Research School “Biophysics and Soft Matter” (BioSoft) offers positions for graduate students in Biology, Physics, or Chemistry (leading to a Ph.D. within 3 years) who will be employed at the Research Centre Juelich or at one of the cooperating universities in Koeln and Duesseldorf. The research school provides an intense training in Biophysics and Soft Matter, as well as soft skills. A comprehensive framework of experimental and theoretical tools that will enable Ph.D. students to gain deeper understanding into the structure, dynamics, and function of complex systems, in particular those related to living systems. PhD Studentships in Chemistry, University of Bristol, UK
Two PhD studentships are available in the groups of Prof Mike Ashfold and Prof Andrew Orr-Ewing in the School of Chemistry, University of Bristol. The studentships are funded by the EPSRC for a period of up to 3.5 years.
Due to funding restrictions, applicants must be citizens of the European Union, and should have a first or upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Chemical Physics or Physics. The positions are available from October 2008.
The research projects involve experimental and computational studies of chemical and photochemical dynamics, using state-of-the-art laser and velocity map imaging techniques. Further details can be found at the website http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/pt/laser/ or by contacting Prof Andrew Orr-Ewing directly (A.Orr-Ewing[ at ]bristol.ac.uk)
