PhD Scholarship on Biomedical Signal Analysis, The University of New South Wales, Australia

The Biomedical Systems Laboratory (http://www.bsl.unsw.edu.au), under the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, has an Australian Postgraduate Award Industry (APAI) scholarship available immediately for one student to pursue a full time PhD degree and participate in a project jointly supported by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and Telemedcare Pty Ltd.

The research area is on the development of novel techniques for analysing and modelling biomedical signals to extract parameters for early diagnosis of critical illness in human. Of particular interest is the beat?to?beat change exhibited in heart rate variability (HRV) and the arterial pulse waveform.

Applicant must have at least Honours 1 (or equivalent) in an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science or other relevant disciplines in science or engineering. We specifically look for the following attributes:

• Strong background in mathematics and digital signal processing
• Good programming skills in Matlab or Labview
• Interest in physiology and clinical studies
• Interest in frequency domain analysis, time series analysis, nonlinear dynamics, statistical signal processing, data mining, and graphical representation of biomedical signals.

Applicant must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen. Relocation costs may be reimbursed, subject to a certain limit.
