Compact reference guides to college scholarships and other awards for minority students At a time when decreased personal savings, shrinking college endowments, a weak economy, and a host of other factors are contributing to rising college costs, students are encouraged to take advantage of every opportunity they can find to pay for their education. 15 scholarships are available for foreign students to enroll in the newly created Master’s program in Semiotics at University of Tartu, Estonia. The program is fully taught in English and lasts for 2 years. In addition to the theory of semiotics student can specialize in three core modules – cultural semiotics, biosemiotics and sociosemiotics. All accepted students to this program will receive a tuition waiver scholarship that will cover their tuition fee for the whole two years of the program. Additionally a stipend of 200 EUR/month will be granted in the course of studies to students with the best academic results. Applications are now welcome and will continue to be welcome until May 2009 for the academic year starting in September 2009.

UT Department of Semiotics is one of the most important centres of semiotics in Europe, and the birthplace of the world-renowned Tartu-Moscow school of semiotics which was founded by prof. Juri Lotman.

EU applicants – June 1
non-EU applicants – April 15

Tuition fees and scholarships:
Program fee covers tuition, some study materials, supervision and advising of thesis preparation. For 2009/2010 applicants 15 scholarships will be available covering full tuition for 2 years of the program. Scholarship request letter must be included with the application. Additionally a stipend of 200 EUR/month will be granted in the course of studies to students with the best academic results.
