Senior Editor

Summary purpose of job

To help build a thriving thought leadership business in Asia that draws effectively on both existing Economist Intelligence Unit content and on specially commissioned research/writing to produce reports and editorial programmes to the highest standards. The position would be based in Singapore or in Hong Kong.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage thought leadership projects that are produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit in Asia
  • Work closely and effectively with sponsors, salespeople, writers and other members of the editorial team.
  • Ensure that the editorial integrity of the Economist Intelligence Unit is maintained at all times during the course of projects.
    - Work with the sponsorship sales team to make calls on clients and develop new business
    - Write proposals for sponsored research projects in Asia
  • Ensure all research is of the highest quality by focusing on the accuracy of the text and numerical analysis. This will require the candidate to be highly literate, numerate and detail-oriented.

Skills and capabilities profile

  • Minimum BA/BS required.
  • Extensive background in analysing, writing and editing articles, papers and/or books on business-related topics and Asia.
  • An outstanding project management track record.
  • Experience dealing with senior executives.
  • Good understanding of international business and management issues.
  • Good understanding of Asia, or parts thereof.
  • Knowledge of online media would be an advantage.
  • PowerPoint skills and ability to manipulate and analyse data in Excel preferred.
  • Native English speaker. Other Asian languages (particularly Mandarin) a definite advantage.
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation and author-management skills.
  • Creativity and flair.
  • Strong numerical skills and an eye for detail.
  • Confidence and diplomatic skills to handle unfamiliar topics and difficult clients.
  • Ability to work independently in a very busy environment
  • Ability to juggle several projects simultaneously.
