Interpreter/Translator – CLINTON FOUNDATION HIV/AIDS AND CLINTON CLIMATE INITIATIVE
CLINTON FOUNDATION HIV/AIDS AND CLINTON CLIMATE INITIATIVE
Jakarta, Indonesia
The Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) was launched in August 2006 to make a difference in the fight against climate change in practical, measurable and significant ways. CCI comprises two key components, viz., the City and Forestry programs. In its first phase, CCI is serving as the implementing partner of the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group, an association of large cities around the world, including Jakarta, that have pledged to accelerate their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. CCI is assisting the city of Jakarta to develop and implement projects resulting in reductions in energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and improvements in solid waste management.
Indonesia has ratified the Kyoto Protocol and, as a non-Annex I Party, is not bound by specific targets for GHG emissions. Indonesia’s major environmental issues include deforestation, land degradation, air and water pollution. GHG emissions are principally associated with deforestation and land use changes in the country. The Government of Indonesia, as host of the COP 13 Bali meeting in December 2007, played a critical role in the landmark decision to include reducing emissions from deforestation and degradations (REDD) in developing countries as part of preparations for a post-Kyoto climate agreement. A new CCI-Forestry and Development program was initiated in October 2008 to assist the Government in harnessing the opportunities to catalyze investments through carbon financing to ensure sustainable forest management, improve livelihoods for forest-dependent communities and to contribute to reducing GHG emissions.
The Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative assists countries in implementing large-scale, integrated care, treatment, and prevention programs to turn the tide on the AIDS epidemic. We partner with governments in developing countries to develop operational business plans to scale-up HIV/AIDS care and treatment. The Foundation is currently active in Africa, the Caribbean and Asia. The host governments take overall responsibility for the programs; the Foundation provides technical assistance, mobilizes human and financial resources, and facilitates the sharing of best practices across projects. The ultimate objective in each of these countries is to make high-quality HIV/AIDS care and treatment available to all who need it, and to develop replicable models for large-scale programs in other resource-poor settings.
