Financial Controller Strategic Marine (S) Pte Ltd

Strategic Marine is an international shipbuilding company specialling in both high speed aluminium vessels and steel vessel construction. The Australian headquartered shipbuilder currently operates shipyards in Western Australia, Singapore, Vietnam and Mexico.

Based in Singapore and reporting to the group CFO, the Financial Controller will develop and implement strategies to achieve best practice in budgetary and financial management. This position will provide meaningful reports and analysis that would be relied upon by senior management for major decisions affecting the achievement of organisational objectives and will be expected to lead and develop staff under its control.

Financial Controller

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Planning
  • o Prepare financial forecasts from company business plans
  • o Tax reporting and tax minimisation
  • Financial Management
  • o Coordinate/prepare group budgets and cashflows
  • o Review quarterly and annual budgets and roll forward
  • o Review and analyse operations reports and explain variations
  • o Assist operations in each country to achieve goals
  • o Prepare periodic Financial Statements and Consolidations
  • Control Systems
  • o Maintain the Management Control System
  • o Develop financial policies and internal control measures
  • o Maintain and develop computerised accounting systems
  • o Conduct audits on all systems as required
  • Finance and Treasury
  • o Review loan documents and agreements
  • o Hedging for interest and forex
  • o Investment of surplus funds
  • o Currency balancing between countries
  • o Review contracts for letters of credit and forex requirements
  • Insurance
  • o Coordinate local and group insurance needs
  • o Review and consolidate insurance to maximise reduction of risk and premium
  • o Review reporting procedures and claims for recovery
  • o Conduct risk analysis to reduce incidents and premium costs

Person Requirements

  • Appropriate qualifications in an Accounting discipline, coupled with significant experience in an accounting environment, particularly project and contract accounting. Membership of a Professional body would be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience in budgetary management and control, and in the provision of management accounting services to senior management
  • Demonstrated experience in providing effective strategic financial advice supporting the achievement of corporate objectives
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and liaison skills particularly in a financial and management accounting environment.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Sound judgement and ability to apply risk management principles
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in use of spreadsheets and computerised accounting systems
  • Ability to manage people effectively across a number of locations
