Engineering Specialists (Occupational Safety & Health Division) Ministry Of Manpower

Engineering Specialists (Occupational Safety & Health Division)

Responsibilities:

Depending on your engineering background, you may perform one of the following job functions:

  • You will monitor safety and health performance of construction worksites and recommend priorities and actions for improvement for the construction industry and investigate dangerous occurrences in construction worksites to establish root causes and systemic weaknesses and implement preventive measures, especially in the areas of improvement for OSH management system, to address them. You will conduct inspections/audits of worksites to identify physical lapses and systemic weaknesses in the management of OSH and research/review into existing/new construction processes, products and equipment for inherent/potential hazards and recommends programmes/measures for protection from those hazards. You will also be working with the Workplace Safety and Health Council to promote best practices in OSH among management, workers and service providers in the construction industry, or
  • You will provide specialist support and guidance in occupational health hazards assessment and control to meet the needs of our stakeholders You will help to ensure that Singapore’s workplace environmental conditions continue to improve by working in collaboration with other departments in OSHD as well as external partners, through programmes and activities in the areas of occupational hygiene standards, research and best practices, or
  • You will be monitoring workplaces in the implementation of safety and health management system and investigation of dangerous occurrences in workplaces to establish root causes and determine areas of improvement in safety & health management system. You will carry out regulatory inspections of statutory pressure vessels and managing of matters relating to statutory pressure vessels. You will also be working with the Workplace Safety and Health Council to promote best practices in occupational safety and health among management, workers and service providers.

Requirements:

You should possess a good Honours Degree in any of the following disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering

In addition, you should have preferably 2 years experience in OSH work. M.Sc. in workplace safety and health or equivalent or equivalent will be an advantage. You should be effective in problem analysis and decision making and have good communication and interpersonal skills. You should also be able to work effectively under pressure, and respond appropriately and competently to challenges.
