Database Administrator

JOB DESCRIPTION

As part of the team of Global Development Team, you will be handling the administration of database for Oracle R12 (11i) and Equinix’s Customer Portal. You will be working closely with Technical Leads and Senior developers to administrator and fine tune databases.

POSITION PURPOSE

Setup different instances (Production, Development, Test) environments
Play role (to a smaller extent) as system administrator and work with other system administrators for installations, patching and extract system statistics on day-to-day basis
Establishing the needs of users and monitor user access and security
Mapping out the ‘conceptual design’ for a planned database in outline
Monitoring database growth and usage patterns. Fine tune the databases to ensure all queries, reports and systems work fine.
Evaluate tools and make recommendations to Tech leads
Design, document and promote security ‘best practices’, policies, standards and protocols. Develop, manage and test backup and recovery plans
Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security. Commissioning and installing new applications
Ensure all database activities adhere to SOX requirements
Operationally support the system, handle user request, customer related issues. Troubleshoots the issues or provide them the requested info
Improve the efficiency of the current system / process by either automating systems or suggesting alternate ways to make them better
Show strong technical / problem solving skills and ability to work efficiently as a team player or as a self-supervised / managed person

EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or above, with majors in Computers
About 5+ years of hands-on-experience with schema design, stored procedures, packages, views, functions and triggers.
Must have worked on Oracle 11i as database administrator
Well versed with Oracle 9i and 10g. Experience with MS SQL server is a plus
Experience with Oracle replication methods, and have developed scripts for setting up cloned environments
Very strong Unix background and developing shell unix scripts is preferred
Should have experience using some of the Oracle database monitoring tools
Having work with these tools like Maven, Ant, Continuous integration frameworks (Cruise Control, continuum), Unix scripts, WLP / WLS administration,etc will be an added advantage
Good understanding of Web Servers such as IIS, Apache, Tomcat etc., and Application Servers such as JBoss, Web Logic, Enterprise Service Bus (WebLogic SOA)
