How do you feel about NFL players being fined for plays that were not flagged during the game?

The NFL is going back through game tapes and fining players for hits even though there was no penalty on the play. Do you think that effects how defensive players play the game? Ifthey fine the players for the hit, shouldn't they also fine the referrees for not calling the penalty?
If they did the same thing in basketball how would their fans and players react?

yo man they are going crazy with the fines on my boy hines ward man. they are fining him because he is picking off little dbs standing around while the play is still alive! Those little dbs need to keep their heads on a swivel if you ask me. Steelers!!!!!!!!!!!!

during the course of a game, plays happen so quickly that to the eye may not have been illegal, like the hit on boldin. the ref may have thought it was a shoulder hit. when i saw the hit during the game, it looked clean. when they showed slow mo replay it was obvious illegal. that's why the league intervenes. on the flip side, a ref calls a play he saw as a foul and really wasn't, the league also steps in and grades him on that. so many points against an official he him out of playoff games, which means no additional income or glory. too many points means termination.

I don't have a huge problem with it, though I think they go overboard sometimes.

If you take the helmet-to-helmet infraction, for example, it often happens too fast in real time to see. Slowing it down and looking at it from different angles, however, can show it for what it is. The real problem with that scenario is that it can sometimes be tough to decide if it was intentional or not. If two players contact each other head-on and shoulder high, their helmets will often meet. This is just a natural after-effect of the hit itself. I don't think that sort of thing should be fined at all as it's quite different from a player launching himself headfirst at another player's head.

Now if it's a simple case of some guy deciding to rabbit-punch a guy's jewels after the play is dead (after looking to make sure the officials are otherwise engaged), then I say fine him back to the stone age.

Last time I checked this was football and didn't no one ask you to play!! you play at your own risk every player I mean every player knows the risk when they touch the field. My point is this its not the NFL job to protect these players, truthfully they cant. You can be on the sideline and get knocked out for the season feel me!! you just have to protect yourself and be ready!! its a dog eat dog world out there in the NFL I played for 18 yrs from 6- til now Im 25 and I've never intentionally meant to hurt someone but I have. When the flow of the game is happening know one was is thinking "ok there is Champ Baily here is my chance to end his career" NO NO NO! it just happens! The NFL just doesn't want to pay Dr. Bills for retired players so they are cutting they losses by turning a full contact sport in to frozen Tag real talk!!!!

I agree with harpo - the game happens at such a fast speed that officials on the field can't possibly catch everything.

Now, some of the fines levied this year may be a little overboard. It seems as if the QB is not truly "just another player on the field."

The refs can’t see everything so it makes sense to have a process in place to review uncalled fouls that put a player’s health at risk.

But to me, a play should only be reviewed if the team of a player put at risk files some sort of complaint.

I don’t think a full review of all the games and nick picking every block and tackle and possibly fining players should be done.

For the NBA, unless an offending player is also suspended, I think the fans would react about the same as they do for this sort of fine being leveled in the NFL.. yawn

Do you think they go through this video to make sure that every hit on here was not only legal but also not fined afterwords? The NFL are total hypocrites. They want to market themselves in a certain way, yet they want to fine players for behaving that way.

And after a player retires and has to have multiple surgeries to correct damage caused by such hits, does the NFL pension plan cover that? No. The league uses up players like currency with no concern for their well being. Their current "safety of the players" stance is total hypocricy.
