WHY is the Twilight series suddenly being ranked next to Harry Potter?
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the Twilight series. But it is simply not as phenomenal as Harry Potter, and they are two totally different stories that can hardly be compared. So why am I seeing everyone say, "I love Harry Potter & Twilight"?

I think because they're two major fiction books, (With magical creatures) and since they're both so popular, people feel they need to compare them.

They go hand in hand based solely on the genre of fantasy. But realistically the stories share no common thread except genre and readers which are probably all HP converts. I love HP more cause its much more in-depth and detailed. But, Twilight isn't bad.
EDIT: To those who same a similar writing style is evident. What books are you reading? Stephanie Meyer and JK Rowling could be farther away in writing style but they're are not similar enough to call it the same. I think its extremely different.

Actually, I like the Twilight series more then the Harry Potter. I've read both, and personally, I think the Twilight series reaches out to more people. Most people go through a time when they are young, love struck teenagers, but i doubt anyone has ever been a wizard at a magically hidden school in england

I've never read twilight, but I was wondering the same thing.
My guess would be that they're two book series which are suited towards having rather obsessive fans in around the same age bracket.

idk I don't like harry Potter as much as Twilight but thats my oppinion. I also herd that they're coming out with a Twilight movie. The Harry Potter movies couldn't compare to the book so I will refuse to go see the Twilight movie

Well they both are awesome stories. Stephine Mery even said she likes Harry Potter. They both are euqally great stories; both funny, exciting, romantic (not so much Harry Potter but...yeah lol).

I believe, that in a way, they are similar:
1. They are both a series,
2. Twilight is somewhat Science Fiction, as well as Harry Potter,
3. There are movies coming out for Twilight, and Harry Potter has movies,
4. They are both very popular
5. They have a somewhat similar story line, (For the last Harry Potter, first Twilight)---Romance.
6. Both main characters are 'Gorgeous'
7. Movie producers are expecting "As good as Harry Potter" reviews for Twilight

Harry Potter isn't the only good book, you know. Twilight seems to loved by girls, ALL girls. Usually people who read HP are ppl interested in magic and that kind of stuff. Twilight is an adventuous romance that applies tp practically every girl and alot of guys. My teachers and adult family members read that book as well. They're too old for HP and don't beleive in sorcery but they do believe in true love, which is Twilight al over.

Twilight is pretty much the next big thing since harry potter came out. I know that I've been seeing a big difference in all the new books that are coming out. They're almost all vampire books. Personally, I like Twilight better. I never got into the whole Harry Potter thing.

I love Harry Potter. I think the story line is amazing and the writing is impeccable. The entire series just seeped with depth, in my opinion. The Twilight series is a good book series but, in my opinion, it no where compares to Harry Potter.

First off, Twilight was in the news.
Second off, one person can like different writing styles or genre. As with movies, you could like the Ocean's movies and like Hairspray. Its like this everywhere we turn. We can like Mexican and Chinese Food. We don't just have to like one thing. They are both extremely good books, and the only reason twilight has gotten ahead on the charts is because the HP books are older, and they are also just coming out with a movie.
Personally, I'm a Twilight fan, but Potter is good too.

They're both fantasy fiction series for young adults that are ridiculously popular, everybody's reading them and talking about them, they're both by female authors, and they deal with a world that is somehow "hidden" from our own.

might it be becase now that Harry Potter is finished, alll of the Fantasy fans want to read another amazing Fantasy, and well Twilight fits right it, its a really good righting style, from howmuch i have read^^

I too love both Twilight and Harry Potter. But Harry Potter is still my favorite book and always will be. I really don't find the their writing styles the same. I think they are both really different stories.
Oh and to the person that said Harry Potter WAS one of the biggest books. Newsflash! It still is. You'll be hearing about Harry Potter til your dieing day.

I asked a similar question! I think it's just because they're so popular, but personally..well, magic has been written about before, but the characters and plots in Harry Potter are so unique. I've read a lot of stories where a girl falls in love with a vampire though.

they are both magical in their own ways. Harry Potter being first out has a compleatly magical world which drives you as a spectator through the world of hogwarts. It is written well and easy enough for most people to read as well as kids in elementary. For most of us it is a great story from when we were in elementary. They are great and I still reread them. As for twilight, it takes a new twist on things. Not only does it put you in the story as bella but it also targets one of the fastest growing geanras in teenage literature. Romance and fantasy. The perfect combination. With it's enchanting story line and captivating wording in some ways the writing style is superior to harry potter especially as kids reach teen years. But harry potter targeted a more vast storyline and audience and an original story. Both are wonderful reads. I do love both harry potter series and twilight series. But the twiligth series does have a certain charm to it which really captivates and reaches out combining our world seamlessly with the world in the book. Keeps you hoping that one day you might be in the same situation as bella. makes wild fiction realistic. So in my oppinion I do like twilight better. Most of the people who say they like both have just gotten past one reading of both series.

i agree with you. i love both series, but hp is way better. but only the girls like twilight, and i dont think it is nearly as popular as hp.
