The MMMF was established in 1981 to honor the late Margaret McNamara and her commitment to the wellbeing of women and children in developing countries. The purpose of the grant is to support the education of women from developing countries who are committed to improving the lives of women and children in their home countries. Previous grant recipients studied agriculture, architecture, urban planning, civil engineering, education, forestry, journalism, nursing, nutrition, pediatrics, public administration, public health, social sciences, and social work.

Full-Tuition Scholarship for Mexican and Central American Residents – Master of Engineering in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) Program

Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) and Mundo Logístico (Editorial Fass, S.C.) are awarding one full tuition scholarship for qualified applicants from Mexico and Central America to undertake the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program in the academic year 2009-2010.

Description of the Program
The MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management program attracts top students from around the world to study and perform research in Zaragoza, Spain. The master’s degree is conferred by the University of Zaragoza. Graduates also receive a MIT-Zaragoza certificate.

The ZLOG program builds on the successful curriculum at MIT, which has consistently been ranked first by US News & World Report in logistics and supply chain management. As part of the program, ZLOG students travel to the U.S. to attend seminars at MIT and visit companies.

ZLOG requires nine months of full time study in English. In addition to core and elective coursework, the curriculum includes a thesis project that typically involves one or more companies. The program develops the analytical and leadership skills that companies seek in an increasingly technological and international marketplace.

ZLOG is aimed at people with industry experience, but is open to anyone who can meet the entrance requirements.

Funded Studentship in Numerical Analysis at NUI Galway. Applications are invited for a Masters by Research in Mathematics at NUI Galway.

The goal of the project is to design and implement numerical methods for systems on nonlinear equations that model patient response to certain drugs in the setting of an Intensive Case Unit.

Starting: September 2009

Funding: Fees plus €17,000 pa for up to 18 months (funded by Science Foundation Ireland)

Requirements: Good primary degree (equivalent to H1 or H2.1) in Mathematics or a related discipline.

Opportunity for African Environmental Leaders to Examine Land-Use History, Science, and Policy

2009 Watson International Scholars of the Environment
1 September – 18 December 2009

The Watson International Scholars of the Environment program brings mid-career environmental leaders from universities, governments, and nongovernmental organizations throughout Africa to Brown University for advanced training in land-change history, sciences, and policies, providing them with the context to enhance the sustainable development capacity in their countries. The opportunity offers an intensive program in sustainable land-use studies to provide mastery of critical concepts, relevant tools, and transferable processes necessary for managing land and ecosystems. Supported by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation and endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the program offers scholars time away from their daily responsibilities to learn new skills with a community of scholars applying both theoretical and practice approaches to real world environmental issues.
